Course: Breathing Easier in Rural and Underserved Communities: Evidence-Based Solutions for Improving COPD Care and Outcomes

CME Credits: 0.00

Released: 2025-02-28

The burden of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is pronounced in rural areas, with a prevalence almost double that of urban areas along with higher rates of COPD-related hospitalizations and deaths. Early identification of the condition and adherence to guidelines are important in improving outcomes, but specialist shortages, long distances to healthcare facilities, and lack of access to services such as pulmonary rehabilitation can adversely impact care. In this CME/CE activity, expert faculty will review new and emerging treatment options for moderate-to-severe COPD, guideline recommendations for their use, and strategies to improve disease assessment and ongoing monitoring. Ways to enhance COPD care and management in rural and underserved settings, such as telehealth-based solutions and patient self-management, will also be discussed. This enduring activity is a recorded session from Rural Health Clinical Congress Fall 2024 that took place on November 23, 2024.

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
